CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Cincinnati recovered from losing the doubles point to claim a 5-2 win over UNC Wilmington in tennis action at the Queen City Racquet Club on Sunday afternoon. It was the fifth win in the last seven matches for the Bearcats, who improved to 7-4.
The Seahawks (10-4), who had won eight of their last nine, swept the first two doubles matches by identical 8-6 scores to take the point.
The Bearcats turned the tables in singles play, winning five of the six matches. At No. 1, Hannah Hinton defeated Molly Molony, the younger sister of former Bearcats stand-outs Kara and Lyndsey Molony, 6-4, 6-3. Rachel Owens followed with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Priscilla Roberts and Valeriya Dandik beat Kayla Schwenk, 6-4, 6-0.
Cassie Martin defeated Alizee Paradis at No. 4 for UNCW's lone win, and UC's Elizabeth Young dominated Hartley Collins at No. 6, 6-0, 6-2. The most competitive match was at No. 5, where Jenny Rowen lost the opening set to Lauren Isenhour, 6-2, before recovering to take the next two, 6-2, 6-1.
The Bearcats next travel to Fort Lauderdale, taking on Providence on the campus of Nova Southeastern on Friday, March 9.
