- Mike Thomas, University of Cincinnati Director of Athletics, has been appointed to the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Issues Committee.

Thomas' appointment is effective September 1, 2007 and runs through September 1, 2011.

The NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Issues Committee is charged with oversight of all issues pertaining to NCAA Division I men's basketball. The committee works closely with the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) on legislation and other issues, as well as the National Basketball Association and USA Basketball.

The committee's primary duties are to ensure the appropriate oversight of the sport, with an emphasis on recruiting activities and to enhance the development and public perception of the sport. The committee will also make policy recommendations per topics unrelated to legislative and playing rules issues.

Recognized for his administrative acumen by his peers, Thomas presently serves on several other national and conference committees, including the Division IA Athletic Directors Association Legislative Review Committee.

Thomas is also a past member of the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Issues Committee and the NCAA Division I Academics/Eligibility/Compliance Cabinet.

In 2005 Thomas received the General Robert R. Neyland Outstanding Athletic Director Award, recognizing his achievements at The University of Akron.

Thomas is well-connected with several national leaders in the both NCAA and professional sport realms. In his 21-year career he has worked with coaches with over 30 national championships among them.

Thomas, 47, received his B.S. degree in Business Administration from in 1983 and his M.S. degree in Athletic Administration from in 1986.
