- Dawn Hoosier, associate head coach of the women's basketball team at the of , was honored by Leading Women in the sports category at the 13th Annual Celebration of Women Luncheon on Wednesday, March 7 at the .

Hoosier, in her 12th year coaching the Bearcats, was among 21 women honored from the Greater Cincinnati area who make a difference in the community. The categories included: applied technology, arts and entertainment, community advocate, community service, consulting, entrepreneurship, finance and banking, judicial, law enforcement, management, manufacturing, media and communications, ministry, office support, public service, sales and marketing, service industries, sports, women against all odds, and women's advocate.

Before entering the coaching ranks for UC, Hoosier was a former Bearcat guard and a four-year letter winner. She devotes countless hours to the UC program on and off the court. In addition to coaching the guards, she spearheads UC's scouting efforts and is responsible for game scheduling. She is an integral part of the recruiting team that has produced four top 25 recruiting classes. The 2005 class was ranked in the Top 10 in the country. She is also the director of the Laurie Pirtle Summer Basketball Camp. The team camp has grown from three squads to 70 during her tenure.

In 1995, Leading Women began with a mission to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, establishing a woman's right to vote. Accordingly, the Greater Cincinnati Women's Network organized a small group of leaders from various women's organizations in the Greater Cincinnati area. Their goal was to bring visibility to Women's History Month. The first celebration honored 20 area women for their accomplishments and contributions to the community.
