RIO VERDE, Ariz.---Senior Sarah Bires and sophomore Marianne Erb each fired opening round scores of 75, helping the University of Cincinnati women's golf team to a tie for ninth after 18 holes at the Rio Verde Invitational. The tournament is being played on the Rio Verde Country Club's Quail Run Course.
For Bires, the score tied for her second-lowest of the 2006-07 season, while Erb's total marked a season-best. The duo is tied for 19th in the individual standings.
The team rundown has Cincinnati tied with cross-town rival Xavier with a score of 306. UC sits just three shots out of the fifth place slot occupied by Eastern Michigan. Baylor, the 46th ranked team in the nation, holds a nine-shot lead over Toledo and Arkansas-Little Rock in the battle for team champion honors.
The Rio Verde Invitational continues with the tournament second round, consisting of 18 holes on Saturday. Live scoring for the entire tournament is available by logging onto www.golfstat.com.
