SETTING THE SCENE: The University of Cincinnati women's golf team opens a busy week of competition during spring break, playing in the USF-Waterlefe Invitational, beginning on Monday (March 19). The two-day, 54-hole tournament will take place at the Waterlefe Golf and River Club in Bradenton, Fla. and will feature five of the top-100 teams in the nation. The event will be a tune-up for the Bearcats' third home event of the 2006-07 season as UC will host the Cincinnati Spring Invitational March 23-24 in Crystal River, Fla.

ABOUT THE TOURNAMENT: The 2007 USF-Waterlefe Invitational will kick off with 36 holes on Monday, March 19. The 13-team field has a strong BIG EAST flavor as league members Cincinnati, Georgetown, St. John's and USF will all compete. The full field with current Golfweek rankings includes: Cincinnati (110), Coastal Carolina (79), Daytona Beach Community College (N/A), Florida International (69), Georgetown (148), James Madison (186), Maryland (66), Mercer (127), Miami (Fla.) (90), Princeton (40), St. John's (150), Southern Miss (173) and USF (47). Florida International is the defending champion of the event, having edged UCF by three strokes a year ago.

THE LINE-UP: With two tournaments in less than a week, a total of seven players will travel to Florida with two competing as individuals. Hillery Wilson, the 181st ranked player in the country holds the top spot, with Marianne Erb right behind. Sarah Bires will play No. 3, with Allison Mayborg and Sarah Stamper filling out the balance. Ashley Combs and Sarah Ryan will also compete as individuals.

SHARING THE WEALTH: While Hillery Wilson has been the big winner for the Bearcats over the past two years, Allison Mayborg and Sarah Stamper got in the act at the Cross River Shootout vs. Northern Kentucky on Sept. 29. The UC duo shared the individual medalist award with scores of 75, marking the first win for both players in the college ranks.

HOPING FOR MORE: Through just over two seasons at Cincinnati, junior Hillery Wilson has already accomplished a great deal. As a Bearcat, Wilson has won seven tournaments, set the school record for lowest round and the mark for lowest single-season average. She is enjoying another great season this year, holding a team-best 75.5 average. At UC's most recent event, the Rio Verde Invitational, Wilson broke her own school record and established a new tournament-best with a round of 68. With two wins and three other top-10 finishes, Wilson is ranked 181st nationally by Golfweek. Last fall, Golfweek tabbed Wilson as one of the nation's five players to keep an eye on.
