The Bearcats will head to Oakridge, Tenn. to first take on No. 11 Notre Dame and Alabama on Saturday (March 17) and then Drake on Thursday (March 23). After the winter season of training the Bearcats will come back in the spring and continue their impressive 2006-2007 season.
FALL TO SPRING: The Bearcats came into the season with their second-year head coach Pam Mork returning 21 letterwinners. The Bearcats have numerous returnees and seven of the returnees are first varsity. Top athletes returning include seniors Sarah Lautenslager, Jodie Lush and Elizabeth Tremblay, juniors Liz Johnson, Beth Murphy and Lisa Teague and also sophomore Sarah White.
The Bearcats had an exciting fall, opening with a 13-second win over Indiana in exhibition action. UC placed fifth in the open eight race at the Iowa Regatta and sixth in the open four event. In their last competition of the season they scored three top-10 finishes at the Head of Hooch Regatta.
FULL OF FUNDRAISING: During the fall and winter quarters the rowing team has been full of fundraising by raising money for the Breast Cancer Research and also for the University of Stetson. In September of 2006 the team helped raise over $1,000 for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Then when a tornado struck the University of Stetson crew team site in February, the Bearcats decided that they would work together and raise money to help rebuild Stetson's program. The team raised more than $1,600 dollars to help the Stetson to rebuild their program showing again the team's relationship with the community.
