Second Varsity Eight Leads Bearcats In Spring Opener

OAK RIDGE, Tenn.---The spring portion of the 2006-07 season for the University of Cincinnati rowing team opened on Sunday and it was the Bearcats' second varsity eight crew recording the squad's best finish. UC opened the spring vs. No. 11 and Alabama in a race that was held in Oak Ridge, Tenn.

The second varsity eight crew finished in a time of 7:05.7, just under 15 seconds behind Notre Dame. The runner-up crew was comprised of coxswain Melissa Patrick, along with Sarah Lautenslager, Jessica Miller, Julie Idione, Beth Murphy, Lisa Teague, Emily Fox, Ashley Wolff and Kelly Camp.

In the first eight race, UC finished third in a time of 7:02.3. Notre Dame ran away with the race, finishing 18 seconds ahead of Alabama with a time of 6:56.5.

The Bearcats will continue their Spring Break trip, returning to competition on Thursday against Drake.
