Hi everyone! My name is Chelsea Kindschuh and I am currently a sophomore on the UC Women's Soccer Team. I am a Finance and Marketing major and I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience at UC on and off the field. Over spring break, I have the opportunity to study abroad in . I have decided to write a blog on my week so I can share my experiences particularly with athletes and recruits. I want to emphasize how even as an athlete you can take advantage of the opportunity to travel and study abroad, an opportunity I feel many athletes fail to realize or know about. I know when I was a recruit two years ago, I wanted to know if studying abroad was an option as an athlete, and no one really knew anything about it. I have found out that it is an option, and it can work around training schedules. I will be gone for a week over spring break, but there are also programs that are anywhere from three weeks to a whole quarter offered at all times of the year. To prepare me for my trip so I can understand more about the places we visit, I was in a class that took place winter quarter. There is a broad range of majors in the class, so this further proves all majors can have the opportunity to travel out of the country. I also want athletes to know that it is possible to get funding and school credit for the trip. My particular trip to is 4 credits and I, along with my entire class of 25, received funding from International Programs. As an added bonus, my friend and teammate, Gigi Ernst will be going on the trip! We are actually leaving Thursday morning to get there a day early since we finished our exams already!
Each entry in my blog will cover one to two days and will include pictures and what we did over those days. I will also be incorporating questions relating to UC and sports through "man on the street interviews" which will be attached in the blog so you can watch. These interviews and the interaction with Italians should make the blog entertaining and informative.
I hope that you will enjoy reading my experience abroad and that recruits will see this option as a huge advantage and extra perk to college in addition to being a bearcat at UC. I also hope my experience will spark the interest of current athletes so they can too, take advantage of the numerous international opportunities UC has to offer!
