RALEIGH, N.C.---Former Bearcat and current Boston Red Sox first baseman Kevin Youkilis has been named to the all-decade team of the Coastal Plain League, one the nation's premier summer leagues for collegiate players. Youkilis is one of 26 members of the squad and one of nine on the team that have gone on to play Major League Baseball.

Youkilis played just one summer in the league, spending the 1999 season with the Florence RedWolves. That summer, Youkilis was the starting third baseman for the South team in the league's all-star game. Youkilis hit .284 with four doubles, one triple, two home runs and 17 RBI for the RedWolves. He made the all-decade squad as a third baseman, being joined at the position by current Washington Nationals' third baseman Ryan Zimmerman.

After completing his career in 2001, Youkilis still holds or shares 11 UC season or career records. Last year with the Red Sox, Youkilis played in 147 games, batting .279 with 42 doubles, two triples, 13 home runs and 72 RBI. He also added 91 walks. Boston opens its 2007 season on April 2 at Kansas City.
