RICHMOND, Ky.---An outstanding second round score of 282 has helped the University of Cincinnati men's golf team to third place in the team standings through 36 holes at the Eastern Kentucky Spring Invitational. The mark, UC's second lowest of the season, leaves the squad just eight shots out of second place.
For the Bearcats, it was a team effort as three players shot 70 or below in round two. Joe Young shot a round of 69 and is one of three Cincinnati players tied for 16th. Geoff Newman (rounds of 74 and 70) and Albert Fernandez (70 and 74) are the other two. Paul Marshall also had an outstanding second round, carding a 69 to jump to 22nd in the run down.
The team standings show the host Colonels with a nine-shot lead over Morehead State with a total of 559. A trio of EKU players control the top three spots in the individual rankings, led by Shaun McConnell whose rounds of 69 and 66 give him a two-shot lead.
The tournament concludes with the final 18 holes at the Arlington Golf Club on Saturday at 8:30 a.m.
