SETTING THE SCENE: With two spring meets under its belts, the University of Cincinnati rowing team will take on Dayton, Eastern Michigan, and Indiana in its final home race of the 2006-2007 season on Saturday, March 31. The boats will be launched at 9:15 a.m. and the races begin at 10 a.m. The event will take place on the Bearcats home site, East Fork State Park and they will be looking to use the home course for advantage.
SPRING START: The Bearcats started the spring strong with the second varsity eight crew team recording the squad's best finish of 7:05.7. The Bearcats took on two top notch teams, Alabama and No. 11 Notre Dame, with the second varsity team only 15 seconds behind Notre Dame. The runner-up crew was made up of coxswain Melissa Patrick, aside with Sarah Lautenslager, Jessica Miller, Julie Idione, Beth Murphy, Lisa Teague, Emily Fox, Ashley Wolff and Kelly Camp. The Bearcats proved that the winter training had paid off.
SPLIT SECOND: In their second race of the spring season the Bearcats raced in a dual against Drake in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. UC completed the day with a split with Drake as the Bearcats 2nd varsity 8 topped Drake by 20 seconds. The boat consisted of Lindsay Fattlar, Julie Idione, Candice DeCree, Katie McGill, Kelly Camp, Deirdre McCartney, Elizabeth Nocheck and Ashley Wolff. Unfortunately, it would not be enough for the Bearcats to come out on top again with Drake barely pulling away beating the varsity 8 A team by three seconds.
REGIONAL RIVALS: Regional rivalry will be meet when the Bearcats attempt to defeat the Indiana Hoosiers on Cincinnati turf.
ALUMNI RACE: Following the races held on Saturday afternoon, numerous alumni will be present to hold an Alumni race at noon.
