RICHMOND, Ky.---Paul Marshall and Geoff Newman both shot final round scores of 73, helping the University of Cincinnati men's golf team to a fourth place finish at the Eastern Kentucky Spring Invitational. The tournament wrapped up on Saturday at the Arlington Golf Club.
After a team score of 282 in Friday's second round, the Bearcats slipped to fourth in the final rundown after a third round tally of 296. Miami (Ohio) came on strong, shooting a 289 on Saturday to jump past UC into third place. Eastern Kentucky ran away with the team championship with a total of 837, 25 shots better than second place Morehead State.
Newman paced the Bearcats with a 13th place finish and a final score of 217. Marshall finished just one shot behind his teammate in a tie for 19th. Shaun McConnell of Eastern Kentucky took the medalist honor at 202, leading a Colonel 1-2-3 sweep.
The Bearcats are back in action at their own invitational beginning on Monday. The two-day tournament will be played at Hueston Woods in Oxford.
