OXFORD, Ohio---A trio of Bearcats are tied for eighth place through one day of play at the UC Spring Invitational. The event is being held at the Hueston Woods Golf Course, just outside of Oxford. The threesome's play has helped Cincinnati to fifth place in the team standings.

Senior Joe Young, junior Alex Wenzel and sophomore Paul Marshall all opened the tournament with rounds of 73 to end the day part of a four-way tie for eighth place. Young and Marshall's scores count toward the UC team total, while Wenzel is competing as an individual.

The team standings are tight with 10 shots separating the top-five spots. Detroit Mercy, behind the play of individual leader Mark Sommerfeld (opening round 67) holds a two-shot lead over Texas with a score of 290. Cincinnati's score of 300 is good for fifth, just three back of Northern Kentucky.

The final round of play gets underway on Tuesday with tee times beginning at 8:30 a.m.
