CINCINNATI, Ohio-- Toughness, finding it and building it, was the theme of Day Six of Spring Drills for the University of Cincinnati football team. Brian Kelly worked his charges through another two hours on the FieldTurf, spending ample time on short yardage situations and continuing to find depth among the offensive blockers.
"We spent some time working on getting off the ball," said Kelly. "We are forming continuity on the offensive line. This may be called the spread offense, but it can't be a `soft spread'. This team must make its name as a physical football team."
One of the key groups to watch is the offensive line where three starters return, but only two reserves who saw significant action last fall. The responsibility to cultivate and develop the unit falls on offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Jeff Quinn.
Kelly commented, "Coach Quinn has arguably the toughest job in the country. Our offensive line is learning a different style of play. He has to not only find the five best offensive linemen, but also the five best that can play in our system."
The Bearcats are slated to return to Nippert Stadium for their final workout of the week on Good Friday, April 13.
