Kelly's style makes demands

CINCINNATI, Ohio--After one hour and 40 minutes of practice, Brian Kelly called the University of Cincinnati football team together and presented his group with a line in the sand.

"We are in the process of teaching our style of football," commented Kelly. "Today was one of those days. This was sloppy. We are going to have to come ready to get better on Wednesday."

Continuing the teaching theme, the coaching staff spent the first hour of practice teaching their position groups on the field. Following 7-on-7 and interior half-line drills, the full units met and worked together at midfield.

Returning the bulk of its starters from last fall, the defense continues to maintain its solid shape. Central to the group is the foursome up front that brings back three starters from 2006.

"Keith Gilmore is working with the most talented group returning, but he is still having to teach our style," said the lead mentor. "He is an experienced, veteran coach who knows what I want."

The message is clear for the Bearcats. Kelly's brand of Bearcat Football is being installed on both offense and defense.

UC returns to Nippert Stadium for its ninth workout of the spring on Wednesday at 3:15 p.m.
