CINCINNATI, Ohio-- The University of Cincinnati's 10th practice of the spring showed allowed the team to work vigorously on a 60-degree day at Nippert Stadium. UC scrimmaged in different parts of the field and focused on specifics on Friday afternoon.
"Today was another learning curve for our football team," said Head Coach Brian Kelly. "We worked on being smart and learning how to handle the clock. You can talk aboiut it all you want. Unless you put your quarterbacks in those situations, they are not going to react. They can't play `Play Station' and figure out when to call a timeout when the clock is running."
On Friday afternoon, the duo of John Goebel and Jacob Ramsey showed that the running back position has an excellent future. The pair of rising sophomores broke a multitude of long gainers on inside runs between the tackles.
"Today, John and Jacob showed a lot more of what we thought they had," Kelly said. "They ran with the first team offensive line and showed natural athletic ability. They each gave us a glimpse of what we might see in the future."
The Bearcats continue to improve as they progress through the 17-year lead mentor's playbook.
Kelly commented, "We're not going to tolerate anybody not doing things the way we demand it. We are starting to do the right things both off the football field. You can't be a championship football team unless you do the right things off the field. They are starting to be a champion football team and I believe we're getting more buy-in as we go along."
UC returns to Nippert Stadium for its 11th workout of Spring on Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. Following an hour of drills, the squad will scrimmage for 12 five-minute periods. After practice, the rosters for the Bearcat Bowl will be unveiled at the special Draft Party which gets underway at noon in the fourth floor atrium of the Richard E. Lindner Center.
