CINCINNATI, Ohio--Senior Hannah Hinton needed three sets to win at the top singles spot to lead the University of Cincinnati's tennis team to a 4-3 victory at Seton Hall. Hinton was one of three UC players to win singles tilts and Cincinnati claimed the doubles point to triumph in the BIG EAST Conference contest.
Cincinnati's (11-7, 4-3 BIG EAST) doubles partners Rachel Owens and Jenny Rowen outplayed Amanda El-Tobgy and Iva Gyurgina by a score of 8-6. The team of Valeriya Dandik and Alizee Paradis triumphed against Danielle Viola and Ebru Burduroglu, 8-6. The pair of Hinton and Elizabeth Young lost to Seton Hall's (9-6, 6-4 BIG EAST) Sylvia Jaros and Nadja Sein, 8-3.
In singles play, Hinton defeated Burduroglu 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 at the No. 1 position. Owens continued the winning with a 6-1, 6-4 win over El-Tobgy. Dandik defeated Sein, 6-4 and 6-4.
Rowen's match against Jaros went three sets before she fell 7-6 (8-6), 2-6 and 7-5. Paradis lost to Viola 6-3, 6-4 and Young lost a tough match to Gyurgina in three sets 6-3, 6-7 (7-5), 10-3 in a tiebreaker.
The first of three league matches this weekend, the Bearcats continue thie road swing with a trip to Jamaica, N.Y. where they will play Connecticut on Saturday.
