SETTING THE SCENE: Following the cancellation of the Illini Spring Classic on April 6-7, the University of Cincinnati women's golf team will head north to Bowling Green to compete in the Falcon Invitational. The event will take place on April 16-17 at the Stone Ridge Golf Club. The Falcon Invitational is the Bearcats' last regular season tournament prior to the BIG EAST Championship.
ABOUT THE TOURNAMENT: The 2007 Falcon Invitational will feature 11 teams converging on Bowling Green, Ohio's Stone Ridge Golf Club to vie for the team title. The 54-hole, two-day event will take place beginning on Monday, April 16. The field for the tournament with each squad's current Golfweek national ranking includes Ball State (161), tournament host Bowling Green (165), Cincinnati (114), Detroit Mercy (171), Findlay (N/A), Marshall (149), Northwood (N/A), Oakland (169), Ohio (170), Toledo (95) and Youngstown State (208).
THE LINE-UP: Cincinnati's top five players will once again be in Head Coach Janet Carl's line-up as the Bearcats wrap up the regular season. As usual, junior Hillery Wilson heads the line-up with sophomore Marianne Erb occupying the second spot. Junior Allison Mayborg, senior Sarah Bires and sophomore Sarah Stamper will also compete in Bowling Green.
HOPING FOR MORE: Through just over two seasons at Cincinnati, junior Hillery Wilson has already accomplished a great deal. As a Bearcat, Wilson has won eight tournaments, set the school record for lowest round and the mark for lowest single-season average. She is enjoying another great season this year, holding a team-best 75.8 average. At the Rio Verde Invitational (March 9-11), Wilson broke her own school record and established a new tournament-best with a round of 68. With three wins and four other top-10 finishes, Wilson is ranked 186th nationally by Golfweek. Last fall, Golfweek tabbed Wilson as one of the nation's five players to keep an eye on.
SHARING THE WEALTH: While Hillery Wilson has been the big winner for the Bearcats over the past two years, Allison Mayborg and Sarah Stamper got in the act at the Cross River Shootout vs. Northern Kentucky on Sept. 29, 2006. The UC duo shared the individual medalist award with scores of 75, marking the first win for both players in the college ranks.
UP NEXT: For the second time, the Bearcats will compete in the BIG EAST Championship. The 2007 edition is being held at the Cardinal Club in Louisville, Ky., the site of UC's season-opening event, the Napa River Grill Cardinal Cup.
