BOWLING GREEN, Ohio---Hillery Wilson won the ninth tournament title of her career, but Cincinnati came up short in its bid for the team championship as the Bearcats finished third at the Falcon Invitational, which concluded on Tuesday at the Stone Ridge Golf Club. Despite shooting its best round of the tournament, UC slipped from first to third in the final 18 holes.
Wilson came to play in the final round, shooting a tournament-best round of 73 to score the individual title with a score of 235. The junior broke away from a first day tie for first to win by four shots over Ohio's Meredith Waterston. Sophomore Marianne Erb also earned a top-10 finish, finishing in the 10th position with a final round 82 that gave her a score of 251.
Playing with just four players after Sarah Stamper came down with the flu, Cincinnati held a one stroke lead after Monday's play. In the improved weather conditions of Tuesday, UC couldn't carry the lead over as Toledo shot a tournament-low round of 311 to run away from the field. The Rockets finished with a score of 1000, 11 better than Marshall and 12 in front of the Bearcats.
The Falcon Invitational draws the regular season to a close for the Bearcats. The 2007 BIG EAST Championship is the season-finale and will be played April 22-24 at the Cardinal Club in Louisville, Ky.
