TAMPA. Fla.-The University of Cincinnati tennis squad fell to DePaul, 4-1 in the opening round of the 2007 BIG EAST Women's Tennis Championship.
The Blue Demons won the doubles point as Dunja Antunovic and Anja Mihaldinec defeated the pair of Hannah Hinton and Elizabeth Young 8-6.
Cincinnati (12-9) took the second match, 8-5 with the pair of Valeriya Dandik and Alizee Paradis defeating DePaul's Bojana Murisic and Clare Chmiel. DPU's Kristen Gambrell and Petra Rehusova won the deciding match over Jenny Rowen and Rachel Owens of Cincinnati, 8-5 to earn the point.
In singles competition, DePaul took three matches with Dunja Antunovic defeating UC's Hanna Hinton 6-1, 6-0. DPU's Kristen Gabrell beat UC's Valeriya Dandik in two sets, 6-3 and 6-0, before DPU's Petra Rehusova defeated UC's Alizee Paradis 6-1, 6-2. Cincinnati's Elizabeth Young won her match against DPU's Clare Chmiel 6-1, 6-0. The singles match between DPU's Anja Mihaldinec and UC's Valeriya Dandik, and DPU's Bojana Murisic and UC's Jenny Rowen did not finish due to DePaul's four points earned.
The Bearcats move on to the consolation round where they will take on Seton Hall on Friday at 3 p.m.
