CINCINNATI, Ohio--Kevin Schwarz met a regional qualifying mark and the University of Cincinnati men's track and field team stands in first place with 41.5 points after day one of the 2007 All-Ohio Championships at Gettler Stadium. The UC women are currently fourth with 18 team points.
Schwarz posted a 9:01.90 in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, winning the event by five seconds and providing one of two UC wins on the day. Solomon Kessio outlasted teammate Randy King in the 10,000 meters, crossing in 31:26.75, just under one second quicker than King.
Brittany Klima and Tara Meier finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the pole vault. Klima cleared a NCAA regional mark at 12' 5-1/2", but fell just short of her school record, which stands at 12' 6". Meier cleared 11' 11-3/4"
Ashley Wilhelm, who currently ranks 10th in the nation in the heptathlon, leads that event with 3136 points. She won the 100 hurdles (14.79) and the high jump (5' 7") and finished second in the shot put (37' 2-1/2") and 200 meters (25.91). Teammate Jasmine Cotten is second with 2894 points.
Day two of the All-Ohio Championships kicks off at 9:15 on Saturday morning with the completion of the heptathlon and decathlon.
