CINCINNATI, Ohio--The University of Cincinnati men's and women's track and field teams each finished second at the 2007 All-Ohio Championships, completed Saturday (April 21) at sunny Gettler Stadium. Akron won both the men's and women's team titles. The UC men scored 162.50 points, while the women posted 128.50.

Three regional qualifiers were attained by Bearcats. The men's 4x100 relay team, comprised of Dayo Igeleke, Cedric Powell, Bob Kandell and John Bowie, won in a regional-qualifying time of 40.15. Troy Lammers finished fourth in the 400 hurdles, but met a regional mark with a personal-best 52.06. Kandell met the regional mark in the 400, winning in 47.16.

Bowie won the 100 in 10.52, just shy of the regional mark. His effort was supported by Igeleke, who posted a 10.66 to finish third. John Dixon finished a solid third in the 5000 meters, crossing in a personal-best 14:45.12. Ian Jarman improved his regional qualifying mark in the hammer throw with a 187' 4" toss, but finished ninth, thanks to an incredibly strong field, which included the nation's top hammer thrower in Kibwe Johnson of Ashland.

Three record-breaking performances led the women's team to its second-place finish. Renee Hein contributed her usual win in the high jump, but this win had a little history behind it as she set the school record with a 6' 0-3/4" clearance, improving her regional qualifying mark. Ashley Wilhelm won the heptathlon with a 5351, and in doing so, set a school record in the javelin with a 139' 2" toss. Monica Hundley bested her own school record in the 100 hurdles, winning the event in 14.08.

Sharika Thompson ran a personal-best 1:03.03, finishing second in the 400 hurdles. Thompson also led off the champion 4x400 relay team (Thompson, Jasmine Cotten, Courtney Wicks, Dominique Davis), which turned in a season-best 3:48.08.

The Bearcats will head to Des Moines, Iowa, next weekend for the competitive Drake Relays.
