SIMPSONVILLE, Ky.---Joe Young's opening round score of 71 has him in sixth place after one day of play at the 2007 BIG EAST Championship. The tournament is being held at the Cardinal Club in Simpsonville, Ky., just outside Louisville.
Young's one-under par score leaves him just five shots off the lead pace being set by Marquette's Mike Van Sickle. The field is tight at the top of the standings, with just four shots seperating Van Sickle from the fourth place tie.
The team standings aren't as close as Louisville holds a six-shot lead over St. John's with a day one score of 283. UC is in ninth with a total of 305, just one shot back of Seton Hall for eighth.
Trailing Young for the Bearcats is sophomore Blake Tucker who shot a 77 on Sunday to hold a tie for 39th. Senior Geoff Newman is just one shot back of Tucker in a tie for 46th.
The tournament's second round gets underway at 8 a.m. on Monday, with the first Bearcat teeing off at 8:50.
