SIMPSONVILLE, Ky.---For the second year in a row, the University of Cincinnati men's golf team saved its best for last at the BIG EAST Championship. One year after climbing four spots in the final round, UC improved from 11th to a tie for sixth in the last round of the latest edition of the league championship. The Bearcats' score of 284 vaulted them into a tie with Connecticut in the final run down.

Cincinnati's vast improvement was keyed by career-best performances from senior Geoff Newman and sophomore Blake Tucker. Playing in his final collegiate round, Newman matched his career-low with a round of 69 to finish the event in a tie for 24th. The Cincinnati native shaved eight strokes off his round two total.

Tucker was also at his best, establishing a new career-low with a score of 70, one shot below his previous best. He finished in a tie for 29th overall Senior Joe Young wrapped up his collegiate career as the highest finishing Bearcat in a tie for 17th. He shot a 72 on Tuesday.

Top-seeded Louisville won its first BIG EAST Men's Golf Championship by 12 shots over Notre Dame. Four Cardinals finished in the top-five, headlined by individual medalist Daryl Fathauer who took the top spot by two shots over Marquette's Mike Van Sickle.
