CINCINNATI---For the third straight year, the University of Cincinnati men's and women's golf teams combined their efforts to help find a cure for a disease that has affected so many when the UC campus hosted a Relay For Life event last weekend. Relay for Life is an organization committed to raising money and awareness for cancer research. It's also a time to remember loved ones lost from the deadly disease.

The theme for the 2007 Relay For Life event was high school groups and the golfers chose to depict their tent as Bayside High from the hit television show Saved by the Bell.

For members of the team, it especially hits home because many know first hand the deadly nature of the disease.

"Their involvement came from one of our women's golf team members who lost her mother to cancer when she was young," explained UC golf coach Janet Carl, who is also participating in the event. "Since that time we have had several of our team members lives affected by cancer."

For this year, the golf teams raised over $1,000, ranking as one of the top 25 groups in Cincinnati.

Coach Carl adds, "In the end, these athletes are really regular students, with regular college lives and they have a desire to leave a mark upon the community that has been a part of their lives while here at school."
