CINCINNATI - J. Kelley Hall, the recently appointed head women's basketball coach at the University of Cincinnati, will be the featured speaker at the "From the Locker Room to the Boardroom" lecture series, presented by the UC College of Business. Hall, a compelling motivator, will offer tips on Team Development on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at the Hyatt Regency Cincinnati.
The event begins with registration and networking from 11:30 a.m. to noon, followed by lunch and Hall's presentation from noon to 1:30 p.m. The cost of the event is $25 per person or $15 per person for UC Alumni.
"I am honored that the UC College of Business would have me as a guest speaker," said Hall. "The University of Cincinnati is a great institution and I enjoy seeing the athletic department's involvement in the UC community.
"Developing team chemistry and camaraderie is something that envelops both the sports and business environments," he added. "I will delve into those topics."
Hall comes to the Bearcats from the University of Louisiana-Lafayette where he transformed the Ragin' Cajuns from a struggling program to a Sun Belt Conference power in just five seasons. Coach Hall took over at UL in 2002-03, inheriting a program with a 300+ RPI rating and from 1990 to 2000, the Cajuns averaged four wins a season. Hall built Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns into a top-60 RPI program in 2006-07 and led the squad to a 65-28 record in his final three seasons.
Hall's 2006-07 squad finished 25-9, winning the regular season Sun Belt West Division title, and accepted a rare mid-major at-large berth to the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament ¬¬ the first-ever NCAA Tournament invitation in UL history. The 25 victories set a new school record for single-season wins, eclipsing the mark of 22 set by the 2004-05 team.
One of Hall's most impressive statistics as a coach has nothing to do with results on the court, but in the classroom. In five years, his recruited student-athletes at University of Louisiana-Lafayette recorded a 100-percent graduation rate.
His other coaching credits include Associate Head Coach/Recruiting Coordinator at the University of Louisville (2000-02), and Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator positions at Auburn (1996-2000), Cal State Fullerton (1994-96), Mississippi State (1992-94) the University of Alabama (1983-84) and Troy (1982-83).
Hall is the third UC coach to present in the series this academic year. Men's basketball coach Mick Cronin was the inaugural speaker in November of 2006 and football coach Brian Kelly presented in February of 2007.
The UC College of Business "From the Locker Room to the Boardroom" series is based on the concept that there are many similarities between the sports and business worlds. The series portrays that the business community can take lessons from coaches who have been successful utilizing the same principles and strategies that are taught in the UC College of Business.
