STORRS, Conn. -- The University of Cincinnati women's and men's track and field finished eighth and ninth, respectively, at the 2007 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships, which wrapped up on Sunday (May 6) at the George L. Sherman Family Sports Complex on the campus of the University of Connecticut. UC's Renee Hein (high jump) and Brittany Klima (pole vault) each captured BIG EAST titles, leading the women to 46 points and a five-place improvement over the 2006 BIG EAST Championships. The men's team also posted 46 points.

Hein, who also won the 2007 BIG EAST Indoor High Jump Championship, cleared 5' 11-1/4" to win her third career conference title. She also captured the 2005 Conference indoor title. The native and graduate has qualified for the NCAA Mid-East Regionals and will attempt to make her fourth trip to the NCAA Championships. No other female track and field athlete at UC has been to more than one. Hein was also fifth in the javelin with a 137' 9" throw.

Klima, who broke her own school record for the third time this season, cleared 12' 9-1/2" in the pole vault to win her first conference title. She joins teammate Tara Meier, who won the 2007 BIG EAST indoor pole vault, in sweeping the indoor and outdoor pole vault. Meier finished fourth at the outdoor championships.

Senior Ashley Wilhelm impressed as well, finishing third in the long jump (19' 9") and fourth in the heptathlon (5,409).

Junior Monica Hundley sped to a school record in the 100 hurdles for the third straight week. She finished fourth in the prelims with a 13.74, more than two tenths faster than her previous personal best. She finished eighth in the finals with a 16.98.

On the men's side, the championship was highlighted by a second-place finish by Troy Lammers in the 400 hurdles. His 52.00 bettered his regional qualifying mark and produced the best finish for UC. Dayo Igeleke, Ian Jarman and Andrew Smith placed third in the 100 meters, hammer throw and high jump, respectively. Igeleke just missed out on a regional mark with a 10.54 in the prelims. His 10.72 in the finals was good enough for third. Jarman bettered his regional mark with a 195' 5" heave, just over five feet short of the UC record. Smith cleared 6' 8-1/4" and moved up one spot after finishing fourth at last year's BIG EAST Championships.

UC will travel to , , on May 12 for the Ohio River Challenge, a last-chance meet before the NCAA Mid-East Regional Championships take place on May 25-26 in
