SETTING THE SCENE: In the final race of the season, the University of Cincinnati women's rowing team will head to Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, Tenn. For the Central/South Regional Championships. It is the largest collegiate rowing regatta in the country, including nine top-20 ranked teams. The Bearcats know the lake well after competing in a tri-race as well as the SIRA Championships earlier in the spring and now will be challenged against 23 of the best teams from around the country this Saturday and Sunday (May 12-13).
SWEET SPRING: The Bearcats have had sweet things happening all spring with the team improving every stroke. Producing top times against numerous top ranked teams helped prove the Bearcats can compete with the best. The second varsity eight team was able to capture their squad's best finish of 7:05.7 in the first spring race. In the second race of the season, a dual against Drake, the first varsity eight team was able to speed to victory by 20 seconds. The day in a draw when Drake beat UC in the second race by only three seconds.
ONE CHANCE: The Bearcats were able to make their one and only home race for the spring count against Dayton, Eastern Michigan and Indiana. At East Fork State Park, the Bearcats showed much improvement from last season at the race as they took home second place in all four races.
A+ AT SIRA: For the first time in Bearcat history the women's rowing were able to take all their varsity teams to the 'A' Grand Finals. The took on the huge challengers at the SIRA Championships and were able to come out with varsity four crew grabbing third, junior varsity placing fourth, varsity eights receiving sixth, and the novice eights taking home second place in the 'B' petite finals.
BIG TIME AT BIG EAST: The Bearcats continued their strong momentum at the BIG EAST Championships in Worcester Mass. The teams were able to go in and create big waves as they took home a fourth place finish overall. The first varsity eight boat was able to grab a fifth place finish, the first varsity four boat took brought home a silver as did the novice boat that competed in the 'B' petite finals, the second varsity eight took home fourth place as well as the second varsity four boat.
