CINCINNATI---A total of five University of Cincinnati student-athletes have been honored by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association for their work in the classroom, as each rower has been named to the CRCA's Scholar Athlete Team. In addition, senior Elizabeth Tremblay was named second team All-Central region by the CRCA.
Tremblay (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) was recognized for her success both academically and athletically as she also picked up a Scholar Athlete mention. During the 2006-07 season, Tremblay was a key member of the first varsity eight crew that placed fifth in the BIG EAST and fourth at the SIRA Championships. The all-region teams recognize outstanding performances by rowers from each of the nation's five Division I regions.
Joining Tremblay in earning Scholar Athlete mention were sophomore Jessica Beebe (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta), senior Crystal Coolbaugh (Amherst, Ohio/Steele), junior Julie Idoine (Louisville, Ohio/Louisville) and senior Ashley Wolff (Walton, Ky./Covington Latin School). To be eligible for inclusion on the Scholar Athlete teams, student-athletes must be in at least their second year of eligibility, have taken part in at least 75 percent of the team's races and carry a minimum GPA of 3.5 for their career.
Beebe spent the season as part of the first varsity eight crew and carries a 3.83 GPA in criminal justice. Coolbaugh was a member of the second varsity eight boat this year and has a 3.80 GPA in biomedical engineering. Idoine, a communications/organizational leadership major with a 3.69 GPA, rowed with the second varsity eight. Tremblay holds a 3.63 GPA in industrial design, while Wolff has a 3.60 GPA in chemical engineering. She was a member of the varsity four boat this year.
The Bearcats wrapped up the 2006-07 season on a strong note, finishing fourth at the BIG EAST Championship and advancing all of their varsity boats to the `A' finals of the SIRA Championships for the first time in program history.
