Sectional Qualifier Results

COLUMBUS, Ohio--University of Cincinnati golfer Albert Fernandez (Gijon, Spain/La Corolla) saw his bid for a U.S. Open berth come up short as he shot a total of 148 during Sectional Qualifying play on Monday at the Double Eagle Golf Course. Fernandez was one of 69 players at the qualifier vying for just four slots in this month's U.S. Open at the Oakmont Country Club.

Fernandez, who recently completed his sophomore year at UC, shot identical rounds of 74 on Monday. During a local qualifier in mid-May, Fernandez placed third in the Toledo, Ohio event with a round of 70. The players earning the U.S. Open bids were amateur Jason Kokrak of Warren, Ohio, along with professionals Tom Gillis (Oxford, Mich.), Kyle Dobbs (Ann Arbor, Mich.) and Jacob Rogers (Tuscon, Ariz.) Kokrak and Gillis finished at 137, while Dobbs and Rogers shot 139.

During the 2006-07 season, Fernandez ranked second on the Bearcats with a 75.3 average. He twice enjoyed low finishes of seventh and his best round of 70 came during the Eastern Kentucky Spring Invitational.
