CINCINNATI -- University of Cincinnati track and field standouts Andrew Smith (Coshocton, OH/Coshocton) and Ashley Wilhelm (St. Leon, IN/East Central) earned 2007 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District IV honors for their work on the track and in the classroom.

For Smith, it is his second straight all-district mention. A 2005 NCAA Regional qualifier in the high jump, he finished third at the 2007 BIG EAST Championships with a 6' 8-1/4" clearance. He finished third at the 2005 All-Ohio Championships with a personal-best 6' 10-3/4" leap, which ranks sixth in school history. Smith, a senior industrial management major, holds a 3.82 GPA.

Wilhelm earned second-team honors after setting school records in the long jump (20' 2"), heptathlon (5515 points) and javelin (139' 2") in 2007. She finished seventh at the NCAA Mid-East Regional Championships in the long jump and met the automatic NCAA qualifying mark in the heptathlon earlier in the season. She opens competition at the NCAA Championships today (June 7). Wilhelm finished third in the long jump at the 2007 BIG EAST Championships and added a fourth-place finish in the heptathlon. Wilhelm graduated in spring of 2006 with a 3.83 GPA in secondary education. She is currently enrolled in graduate school and carrying a 4.0 GPA.

District IV consists of all NCAA Division I universities in Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. The ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America teams will be announced on June 25 (men) and June 27 (women).
