SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- University of Cincinnati student-athletes Renee Hein and Ashley Wilhelm concluded their collegiate careers at the 2007 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Sacramento State's Hornet Stadium.
Wilhelm finished 11th in the heptathlon with a school-record 5592 points, earning All-America honors. She ends her career as the school record-holder in the heptathlon, long jump, javelin throw and pentathlon. She finished seventh in the long jump at the 2007 Mideast Regional Championships and was third in the long jump and fourth in the heptathlon at the 2007 BIG EAST Championships.
Hein, the 2007 BIG EAST Indoor and Outdoor high jump champion, finished just out of the finals with a 5' 8-1/2" clearance. She was competing in her fourth NCAA Championships. The Mercy High School graduate finished 24th at the 2005 Outdoor Championships, 18th at the 2006 Outdoor Championships and 16th at the 2007 Indoor Championships before her 19th-place finish at the 2007 Outdoor Championships. She is the school record-holder in the indoor and outdoor high jump and earned three conference titles during her stellar career.
Both Hein and Wilhelm are scheduled to participate in the 2007 AT&T USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on June 20-24 in Indianapolis, Ind. Former Bearcats David Payne (110 hurdles), Mary Wineberg (400 meters) and Brandon Hon (110 hurdles) are also scheduled to compete. Current Bearcats Dayo Igeleke (100, 200 meters), Jasmine Cotten (heptathlon) and Sharika Thompson (400 hurdles) will compete in the Junior National Championships, which run concurrently with the AT&T USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
