CINCINNATI -- Ashley Wilhelm (St. Leon, Ind./East Central), who finished 11th in the heptathlon at the 2007 NCAA Championships last weekend in Sacramento, has been named to the US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-America team. Wilhelm, who broke her own school record in the event, finished with 5,592 points and set personal-bests in four different events.

She became just the second female track and field athlete in school history to earn All-America honors and the first to earn outdoor All-American.

Wilhelm had a brilliant outdoor season, winning the heptathlon crown at the Alabama Relays and the All-Ohio Championships. At the Alabama Relays, Wilhelm set the school mark with 5,515 points, breaking school records in the long jump (20' 2") and javelin (133' 11") along the way.

Later in the year, she rewrote the javelin record with a 139' 2" toss at the All-Ohio Championships. She finished fourth in the heptathlon at the BIG EAST Championships and placed third in the long jump, leading the Bearcats to an eighth-place finish, a five-spot improvement from 2006.

Wilhelm closes out her UC career with four school records in her possession. She holds the top UC mark in the heptathlon (5592), pentathlon (3788), the long jump (20' 2") and the javelin throw (139' 2").

Wilhelm, who graduated in spring, 2006, and is currently enrolled in graduate school, earned ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District IV honors earlier this spring.

"Ashley has overcome numerous obstacles and developed into an All-American through hard work and determination," said head coach Jim Schnur. "She is a true student-athlete and we are extremely proud of all of her accomplishments, both in the classroom and on the track."

She will compete in the heptathlon at the AT&T USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on June 21-24 in Indianapolis.
