LEXINGTON, Ky.--Tuesday turned out to be a good day for University of Cincinnati senior golfer Hillery Wilson as she advanced into the first round of match play at the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship. Wilson shot a 76 in the final round of stroke play qualifying to make the cut for match play which kicks off today.

Wilson finished the stroke play qualifying rounds with the 60th best score of 153. She is now set to take on fifth-seeded Ha-Na Jang of Korea in head-to-head match play today. The duo will tee off at 10:27 a.m. If Wilson is able to upset Jang, she will take on the winner of No. 28 Miki Ueoka and No. 37 Emily Powers on Thursday, with an 8:24 a.m. tee time.

Wilson earned a berth for the event after shooting a 77 at the Turkeyfoot Lake Golf Links in Akron, Ohio on May 26 in a sectional qualifier. A total of 155 players advanced from the sectional qualifiers which began with a record field of 735.

The winner of the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links receives a lengthy list of awards including:

  • A gold medal and custody of the Robert F. Dwyer Trophy for one year.
  • A 10-year exemption from sectional qualifying for U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championships
  • A two-year exemption from sectional qualifying for the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship.
  • A one-year exemption from sectional qualifying for the next U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championship.
  • An exemption from local qualifying for the next five U.S. Women's Open Championships.

During the 2006-07 season, Wilson led the Bearcats for the third straight season in average, reestablishing her own school record with a 76.1 average. As a junior, Wilson won four tournaments, pushing her career total to nine and set a UC record for lowest single round score with a 68.
