NEW ORLEANS -- Bob Kandell (Huron, Ohio/Milan Edison), a 2007 graduate of the University of Cincinnati's mechanical engineering program, was named to the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) 2007 All-Academic Team.

Over 230 student-athletes from 88 colleges and universities comprised the Division I Men's All-Academic Team.

Kandell, who participated in the 200 and 400-meter dashes as well as the 4x100 and 4x400 relays, qualified for the NCAA Mid-East Regional Championships this spring in the 400 meters and the 4x100 relay. He ran a personal best 47.12 in the 400 meters to finish 14th in the nation's top sprinting region. Kandell graduated in the spring with a 3.29 GPA in mechanical engineering.

"Bob Kandell has been a leader on and off the track," head coach Bill Schnier said. "As a two-time team captain, a Dean's List student, a UC co-op, an NCAA Regional qualifier and a school record holder, he has been the model of a student-athlete."

The USTFCCCA honors Division I individuals for their academic and athletic achievements during the indoor and outdoor track season.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, one must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.25 and obtain an NCAA automatic or provisional qualifying mark for the most recent indoor championships or an outdoor regional qualifying mark in their respective event.
