LEXINGTON, Ky.---The University of Cincinnati volleyball program, under the guidance of eighth-year head coach Reed Sunahara, has built a reputation of success both on the court and in the classroom. The latter has been proven once again as the Bearcats have been selected as one of 55 Division I programs to win the Game Plan/American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award.
UC was a part of history as the 55 honored teams marked an all-time high for the AVCA program. In all 303 schools and teams ranging from high school to all levels of collegiate competition were recognized. Honored teams were required to hold a combined GPA of at least 3.30 for the academic year. The Bearcats completed the 2006-07 year with a 3.457 GPA.
"This is another testament to the hard work that our players put in, especially in the classroom," Sunahara stated. "While we strive for championships on the court, we put equal emphasis on being champions in the classroom as well. I am proud of the work done by our student-athletes and they are very deserving of this award."
This marks the third straight year that the Bearcats have been honored for their academics by the AVCA. Earlier this week, UC had 10 of its student-athletes included on the BIG EAST Academic All-Star Team.
