CINCINNATI-- Former University of Cincinnati track and field star David Payne ran second in the men's 110-meter hurdles final at the Pan American Games on Saturday in Rio De Janiero, Brazil.
Competing for the United States, Payne crossed the line in 13.43 seconds to take second place. He trailed only Cuba's Dayron Robles, who was 18 hundredths of a second faster, at 13.25 seconds.
Owning one of the fastest times in the world, the Cincinnati native won the 110m hurdles championship at the Qatar IAAF World Super Tour 2007 with a time of 13.12 seconds earlier this season. On June 27, the Wyoming High School graduate claimed the event's top spot at the Golden Spike 2007 in Ostrava, Czech Republic.
A two-time all-American in the 110m hurdles while at UC, Payne was one of 237 competitors from Team USA to bring home a medal from the Pan Am Games.
