CINCINNATI-- With warm weather and few clouds in the sky, Day Two of the University of Cincinnati's preparations for the 2007 season looked a great deal like the first day. With the temperature in the low 90s, the Bearcats' ability to withstand the elements was a good thing according to head coach Brian Kelly.
"I was happy to see everyone back out here after yesterday's practice," said Kelly. "We were able to bounce back and maintain a high intensity level. We're trying to work hard, work smart, and get things done. We added more instruction today and we got our first glimpse at the kickoff unit. "
Nippert Stadium's FieldTurf surface underwent a recent alteration, because of a new rule installed for the 2007 campaign. When the Bearcats and Southeast Missouri State kick off the college football season on Aug. 30, the kicker will do so from the 30 yard line. The placement marks formerly set at the 35 yard lines were removed and new marks have been installed on each 30.
Jake Rogers and Brandon Yingling began the fight for the kickoff honors with neither individual taking a distinct advantage. Both Rogers and Yingling were able to kick end-over-end efforts to near the goal line.
UC showed indifference to the temperature for much of the day, but took a full team break more than midway through the workout for water. After the sports medicine staff, under the direction of Bob Mangine, was sufficiently satisfied that the team was in good shape the practice returned to its accelerated tempo.
Continuing preseason drills over the weekend, the Bearcats will be back at Nippert Stadium on Sunday for their third practice of the preseason. Practice is set to begin at 3:05 p.m.
