CINCINNATI-- The University of Cincinnati and Oklahoma have signed a contract for a home-and-home series, beginning with the 2008 campaign. The series completes Cincinnati's 2008 non-conference docket that includes three road tilts.
The Bearcats will travel to Norman on Sept. 6, 2008 to begin the series and will host the Sooners on September 25, 2010 at Paul Brown Stadium. The two sides have never met on the gridiron.
"If we expect Bearcats football to be a national presence and compete in the BCS, we need to play nationally recognized programs," stated head coach Brian Kelly. "Bob Stoops won a national championship in 2000 and has earned four Big 12 Conference titles over the last seven years at Oklahoma. This is an opportunity for UC to play at the highest level and host a BCS program in an NFL venue."
Cincinnati owns a 7-7-1 (.500) mark against programs from the Big 12. Its last contest against a Big 12 foe was a 34-7 triumph over Kansas on September 20, 1997.
"This series is important for our student-athletes, coaches and fans," said Director of Athletics Mike Thomas. "This is the type of game our fans want to see. Our student-athletes appreciate the opportunity to play on a national stage and our coaches enjoy lining up against top-quality competition. This will be an opportunity for national exposure for our program and allows us to extend beyond the BIG EAST footprint."
The 2007 season gets underway on August 30, when the Bearcats entertain Southeast Missouri State at Nippert Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
