CINCINNATI--The University of Cincinnati football team conducted two-a-days for the second time this preseason on Friday. Head coach Brian Kelly's staff continues to install the playbook and evaluate position battles in preparation for the 2007 campaign.
"Consistency is what we are starting to look at and there is an expectation level," Kelly said. "We're starting to build some continuity and consistency."
The Red and Black wore full pads for the morning workout and went to helmets and shoulder pads for the evening practice. Consistency of performance and focusing on details were talking points for the head coach as he looks ahead to Saturday afternoon's scrimmage.
"We have a couple of scripted situations that we need to work on tomorrow," Kelly commented. "We will set up a short field, red zone, goal line situation. "Those are evaluation opportunities as a unit and individually obviously.
Already one week into the preseason, Kelly is interested in seeing the outcome of Saturday's action. He will have a BIG EAST officiating crew on site for the scrimmage to help evaluate his squad.
Kelly stated, "Sometimes when the lights turn on, guys who don't practice very well play better. It allows you to see where you are and take stock. Where are we as we begin to move in to that next phase? I think the scrimmage will go a long way in telling us.
Saturday's workout is scheduled for 2:05 p.m. at Nippert Stadium.
