CINCINNATI-- Week One of the National Football League (NFL) preseason came to a close late Monday night, but for the 15 former University of Cincinnati football players competing for roster spots, it signified the beginning of the NFL season. Former Bearcats spotlights are listed below:
Former Bearcats Troy Evans linebacker helped kick off the preseason with the New Orleans Saints in the Hall of Fame Game against Pittsburgh. Fellow linebacker Andre Frazier made three tackles and forced a fumble for the Cincinnati Bengals against Detroit. In his first action since the Super Bowl, the Indianapolis Colts' Tyjuan Hagler made eight tackles at Dallas on Thursday.
Defensive back Daven Holly registered two tackles, an interception and a pass deflection in the Cleveland Browns' matchup against Kansas City on Saturday. Antwan Peek made two tackles, including a sack, and a forced fumble from his starting outside linebacker position against the Chiefs.
Rookie hopefuls Brent Celek and Kevin Lovell each offered pro football fans glimpses of what the UC faithful had grown accustomed to seeing. An undrafted free agent pickup of the St. Louis Rams, Lovell handled all of the placekicking duties in the Rams' preseason opener, including a game-winning 40-yard field goal as time expired to give St. Louis a 13-10 win over Minnesota. Celek snagged four passes for 59 yards in his debut for the Philadelphia Eagles against Baltimore on Monday night.
