WEST HARRISON, Ind.-- University of Cincinnati head football coach Brian Kelly was pleased with what he saw in contrasting practices on Thursday at the Higher Ground Retreat and Conference Center. The Bearcats dressed in full equipment in the morning and helmets and shoulder pads in the afternoon, but they showed their penchant for staying aggressive in both rushing and passing situations throughout the day.
Pleased with the offense's performance Kelly stated, "You can talk about being a spread offense all you want, but we must also run the football. Today we were heavy into running the ball and the play action pass."
The Bearcats spiced up the morning workout with goal line situations to raise the intensity level early. Later, they came back to more 11-on-11 work in rushing situations. The afternoon showcased more repetitions in the passing game, 7-on-7 passing drills, third and long situations and the two-minute drill.
"We've got a physical presence on our football team," commented Kelly. "We're not a finesse team. We're not a soft group and today we saw some good things. We have to show that we can spread it out, but at the end of the day, you have to be able to run the football and I thought we did a pretty good job."
UC returns to the field for one practice on Friday. That session gets underway at 3:05 p.m.
