COMMERCE CITY, Colo. -- Former Bearcat all-American Omar Cummings scored his first career Major League Soccer goal in the Colorado Rapids' 3-0 win against the New England Revolution Thursday night (Aug. 16) at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.
Cummings took a through pass from Colin Clark in the 76th minute and beat Revolution keeper Matt Reis with a powerful blast.
ColoradoRapids.com recounts the goal:
"Omar Cummings stretched the Rapids' lead to 3-0 in the 76th minute with his first career MLS goal. The Jamaican, widely considered the fastest player in MLS, one-timed a Clark through ball out of the air in world-class fashion, after burning the Revolution defense with his speed."
Cummings, a two-time first-team all-BIG EAST selection, was drafted by the Rapids in the third round of the 2007 MLS SuperDraft. The Jamaican striker scored 13 goals and posted 16 assists in two seasons at UC.
Local fans looking to catch a glimpse of the former Bearcat will have an opportunity when the Rapids visit Columbus for a Sunday afternoon contest against the Crew on Sept. 2. Kickoff in Crew Stadium is set for 1 p.m.
