CINCINNATI-- Week Two of the National Football League (NFL) preseason came to a close late Monday night, but for the 16 former University of Cincinnati football players, the NFL season is still in its infancy. Former Bearcats spotlights are listed below:
Former UC defensive end Trent Cole totaled two tackles, 1.5 sacks and two quarterback hurries in the Philadelphia Eagles' 27-10 win over the Carolina Panthers on Friday night. On the offensive side, rookie tight end Brent Celek paced the Eagles once again with four receptions for 45 yards in the victory.
Once again, defensive back Daven Holly registered two tackles for the Cleveland Browns. Starting defensive end Antwan Peek totaled two sacks in a narrow 23-20 loss to Detroit. Tackle Clint Stickdorn continues to battle for a roster spot for the Lions.
A fourth-round pick in the 2007 NFL Draft, John Bowie made three tackles in his first NFL experience for the Oakland Raiders in a 26-21 loss at San Franciso on Saturday. On the other end of the spectrum, Jason Fabini heads into his 10th NFL season playing as a reserve offensive tackle for the Washington Redskins.
Rookie kicker Kevin Lovell responded with another impressive week, scoring seven points in the St. Louis Rams' 30-13 loss against San Diego. Lovell split the uprights from 44 yards at the end of the first half and converted a 42-yarder in the third quarter.
