CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati men's soccer team opened exhibition play Tuesday night (Aug. 21) with a scoreless draw against regional foe Butler.
The defending BIG EAST Red Division champions, UC featured five new starters, held a 5-4 shot advantage in the first half, but neither team was extremely dangerous near the goal. In the second half, UC put more pressure on the Bulldogs, but was unable to crack the scoreboard.
The Bulldogs threatened late in the match when BU was awarded a free kick from 30 yards out. Boris Gatzky's shot sailed high, preserving the 0-0 score.
Redshirt freshman Matt Williams got the start in goal and made one save. True freshman Miguel Rosales played the second half and recorded a pair of saves.
The Bearcats continue exhibition play when they travel to Winston Salem, N.C. for a date with preseason No. 3 Wake Forest on Saturday, Aug. 25.
The regular season opens on Aug. 31 when UC takes on 2006 NCAA participant Loyola (Ill.) in Chicago. The home opener for the Bearcats is slated for Sept. 13 against rival Xavier at Gettler Stadium.
