WEST HARRISON, Ind.-- The University of Cincinnati football team set its sites on returning to its uptown campus after conducting its 13th and final practice at Higher Ground Conference and Retreat Center on Wednesday morning. The squad spent another two-hour session working on fundamentals and preparation for the season opener, which is eight days away, against Southeast Missouri State.
"Today was not a physical practice," head coach Brian Kelly said. "It was making sure our kids are locked-in and understand all of the situations. The bane of any head coach's existence is that first game when there are only nine guys are on the field. It's one of those things you have to practice and spend time. We try to cover as many situations as I have experienced in a game and get our kids acclimated to that."
Kelly took matters into his own hands this morning, by requisitioning a bullhorn. After putting the team through its standard paces for one hour, UC's head coach took the team through its pregame routine. Via the bullhorn, he then called out 41 different scenarios that tested the Bearcats' defense, offense and special teams.
Ending the experience at Higher Ground on a positive note, Kelly gave the squad approximately 48 hours away from football before sending the Bearcats back to campus.
