OSAKA, Japan - Former University of Cincinnati all-American David Payne finished third in the 110 hurdles at the 2007 IAAF World Championships on Friday (Aug. 31).

Payne ran a 13.02, which ranks ninth in U.S. history. Payne's trip to Osaka was a wild one, as he replaced U.S. record-holder Dominique Arnold, who was a late scratch with an injury. Payne received the call on Tuesday in Virginia and found himself running in prelims on Wednesday at Nagai Stadium, half a world away.

Another former Bearcat, Mary Wineberg, will run the third leg on the U.S. 4x400 relay squad, which is favored to win gold. Wineberg placed eighth in the open 400 meters earlier this week. The 4x400 relay finals are set for Sunday (Sept. 2) at 9:30 a.m. ET.
