CINCINNATI---During the months of August and September, the University of Cincinnati Department of Athletics is doing its part to help needy children in the Greater Cincinnati area with participation in Operation School Bell. The project, sponsored by the Assistance League of Greater Cincinnati, provides underprivileged children with clothes and supplies they need for school.
The Bearcats involvement comes by donating time at the Assistance League office, entertaining children while their needs are met and assisting the ALGC staff. Already, representatives from the football team and the compliance and academic services offices have made stops at the ALGC office. In coming days, members of the volleyball, women's golf, men's basketball, women's basketball and cross country/track and field teams will spend time with Operation School Bell.
"This is a wonderful project and I am very proud of our student-athletes and staff for their participation," UC Director of Athletics Mike Thomas says. "Giving back to the community is such an important thing and is directly in line with our CATAPULT vision. I applaud each person that has and will take part in this project and thank them for representing the University of Cincinnati in such a fine manner."
Operation School Bell is the official project of the National Assistance League, which has a branch in Greater Cincinnati. The program began nearly 50 years ago as a one-person effort and continues today at countless agencies across the nation. In Cincinnati, Operation School Bell provides much needed school uniforms, sweatshirts, socks, underwear, shoes, hygiene supplies and school supplies to underprivileged children.
