SIMPSONVILLE, Ky.---The University of Cincinnati women's golf team has gotten its season off on the right foot as the Bearcats hold seventh place in the team standings at the highly competitive Napa River Grill Cardinal Cup. Through 36 of 54 holes, the Bearcats have a team total of 612 and sit just 10 strokes out of the top-five.
As has been the case for much of the past three seasons, the Bearcats' leader is senior Hillery Wilson. The two-time all-conference selection put together rounds of 75 and 72 on Monday to end the first day of the season with a score of 147. Wilson is right on the doorstep of the top five as she is just one stroke behind a four-way logjam for fifth place.
A newcomer to the Bearcat roster, freshman Bambee Dela Paz put together a solid start to her collegiate career, as she tallied rounds of 76 and 74 to end the day in a tie for 17th place.
The top of the team standings shows a pair of familiar faces to the Bearcats as BIG EAST foes Notre Dame and Louisville are ranked 1-2. The Fighting Irish hold an eight-shot lead over the host Cardinals with a score of 582. Augusta State sits just two back of U of L in third.
The tournament at the Cardinal Club wraps up with a shotgun start to the final 18 holes on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.
