CINCINNATI -- Senior forward Patrick Baxter (Cincinnati, OH/Wyoming) has been named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, as well as earning a spot on the CollegeSoccerNews.com National Team of the Week after leading the University of Cincinnati men's soccer team to a pair of BIG EAST wins over the weekend. In addition, freshman goalkeeper Miguel Rosales (Aurora, CO/Smoky Hill) was tabbed as the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week.
Baxter, who has played in the last three matches after returning from injury, scored three goals and added an assist in UC wins against Georgetown (Sept. 21) and Seton Hall (Sept. 23). He scored the game-winning goal in each match.
A junior college all-American while at Cincinnati State, Baxter tallied a goal and two assists during the 2006 season, helping the Bearcats to the BIG EAST Red Division title and a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
Rosales, a two-time Colorado Player of the Year as a prep, allowed just one goal - coming off a penalty kick - in UC's two wins. He shut out Seton Hall for 84 minutes before exiting with the Bearcats holding a 4-0 lead. The frosh holds a 0.84 goals against average with one shutout this season and has made 22 saves in six starts.
Baxter and Rosales are the first Bearcats to earn BIG EAST weekly honors this season.
UC (3-4-0, 2-0-0) hits the road for a pair of BIG EAST contests this weekend, taking on No. 2 Notre Dame in South Bend on Sept. 28 and then battling Marquette on Sept. 30.
